Adult ADHD and Autism Evaluations

You’ve spent your life wondering why things seem so much easier for everyone else. You stay stressed out because you keep forgetting important details, you always feel like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster, or you struggle to keep up with the scattered thoughts your brain churns up.

For years you have carried the weight of feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, and exhausted from trying to keep up with a world that doesn’t understand you. You don’t feel like you fit in social situations, you have sensitivities to certain textures or scents that don’t seem to bother anyone else, or you need a routine that other adults seem to shun.

Maybe you’ve spent years wondering if ADHD or Autism could explain your experience. The stereotypes about what these diagnoses look like might not fit your reality so you question yourself and continue to mask your challenges to those around you, making you even more tired. Wondering can be a lonely and frustrating experience, especially when the world around you hasn’t made it easy to find answers.

You can stop wondering now because your experience matters and you deserve to be heard. Scheduling an evaluation for Autism or ADHD can provide the answers you’ve been looking for such as validation, clarity, and relief at understanding yourself even more.

Getting evaluated isn’t just about your diagnosis. Having answers can help you make sense of your story and find the support you need to live your life to its fullest. If you are ready to know more about yourself, I have several evaluation options for you to consider.

Informal Evaluation

If you suspect that you have Autism or ADHD but do not want to commit to a formal evaluation, we can meet for an informal evaluation to provide more insight on your symptoms and help you determine if you want to move forward with more formal testing.

  • 1 hour brief interview and informal screening tools

  • For personal use, self-diagnosis confirmation and increased understanding via psychoeducation

  • Includes 1 page letter and personalized list of resources/referrals available 10 days after the session

  • This evaluation will NOT provide a diagnosis or formal report and letters requesting accommodation will NOT be provided.

  • Investment: $300. If you decide to proceed to a formal evaluation, this $300 will be applied to that fee if you are paying out-of-pocket for the evaluation. This evaluation is not reimbursable by insurance because a diagnosis is not given.

Formal Evaluation

A formal evaluation will involve a thorough assessment, including online screening tools and assessments, a face-to-face clinical interview, a formal report, and a follow up to review results.

  • 2 90-minute clinical interview sessions (ADHD and Autism together)

  • 1 2-hour clinical interview session (ADHD only or Autism Only)

  • 1-hour feedback session

  • Review of Evaluation Tools

  • This evaluation can be used for personal confirmation and to request medical and work accommodations. Accommodations cannot be guaranteed and are the discretion of medical staff and employers.

  • This evaluation will include full report with test results, diagnosis if applicable, and personalized list of resources/referrals

Investment (out of pocket):

  • Formal ADHD only OR Autism Only Evaluation: $1100. Includes screening tools, a clinical interview, test results, and a formal clinical report.

  • Formal ADHD and Autism Evaluation: $1500 Includes screening tools, a clinical interview, test results, and a formal clinical report.

Insurance

I currently accept Aetna (Commercial and NC State Health Plan) and BCBS for evaluations. UHC and Cigna can be billed for a portion of the assessments and the remainder will be out-of-pocket. The amount you are responsible for will vary by plan. Please note that if insurance is used, I must report a diagnosis to the insurance company. If you do not wish your diagnosis to be reported, self-payment for the evaluations is needed.

Considerations:

Please note that I am a Master’s level clinician so I do recommend looking into the requirements needed in order to request accommodations from your college or university if needed. Many institutions will accept letters from LCMHC (my credential) or other Master’s level credential. However, some might only accept a diagnosis from a  PhD, PsyD, or MD.

Many workplace accommodations do accept requests made by a Master’s level clinician. I can write a letter requesting accommodations be made. Per ADA, an employer cannot ask for your diagnosis, but you do need to list the difficulties you experience in the workplace and accommodations you are requesting to complete your job duties.

If you are looking to begin medication, whether a PCP or psychiatrist will accept an assessment is provider-specific. If you are already affiliated with a provider or have one in mind, please check with them about the type of assessment they would like in order to add a new diagnosis to your chart.

If you are looking to apply for disability due to your diagnosis, please note that a diagnosis from a Master’s level clinician is often not sufficient. If you are considering applying for disability, I would recommend seeking evaluation from a psychologist (PhD or PsyD).

Insurance may or may not cover psychotherapy when Autism is the primary diagnosis. Please research this with your specific insurance policy. Many neurodivergent people have multiple diagnoses but only 1 diagnosis must be listed on insurance claims.

Some states in the United States have an Autism registry and once someone is diagnosed they are added to this list. North Carolina is not one of those states.

There are many laws that impact disabled people that can vary across the USA and this is changing frequently. I encourage you to research local and state regulations for your area and any .

Some countries around the world have more strict immigration restrictions for people with disabilities, including Autism. I encourage you to review the website www.expatsi.com to learn more.
